Responsible Farmers “As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands: One for helping yourself, the other for helping others.”— Audrey Hepburn Giving Back to Our Community Considering Rachel’s career in social responsibility and Ross’ lengthy military service, it should come as no surprise that giving back and serving others has been built into the DNA of Goodspeed’s R&R. We value the organizations that make our community a vibrant place to live and enrich the lives of children across the region.Air CampAir Force Assistance FundCulture WorksDayton Art InstituteWright-Patt Credit Union Sunshine Fund Taking Care of Our Planet In addition to reducing our own consumption and trash pile, we’ve implemented responsible waste management and sustainable practices that ensure the water below stays clean and the land above is healthy for generations to come. Manure Management. One horse can produce as much as 8.5 tons of manure and one hen about 45 lbs. every year. To manage this and be good land stewards, we compost manure for our landscaping, gardens and wooded preservation areas. Food Waste. Nearly 40% of food in America is wasted, according to Feeding America. While we’ve cut down our grocery bill with our vegetable garden, we also compost our food waste accordingly. Conservation. We are working with USDA technical consultants to remove invasive species and replace them with native trees and shrubs to preserve our wooded wildlife habitat.
